The base game — Harlequin Carnival — The base gameFive reels of three cells framed by two marble arches, caryatids and garlands of roses, in a Venetian carnival setting. Two engraved pediments announce HARLEQUIN RESPIN on the left and HARLEQUIN BONUS on the right, either side of a mascaron. The cells mix gilded card suits — club, spade, heart, diamond — with painted masks: moon, cat, foliage, a sun with a woman's face. A harlequin in a red and purple costume, tricorne and black mask, fills the whole third reel, labelled WILD top and bottom with x1 at her feet; a masked face in a tricorne carries the word BONUS on the fourth. Bet of €1, balance of €10,000, PLAYING FOR FUN notice.
