The base game — Misery Mining — The base gameAt the start, only a block of three columns by three rows is lit in the middle of a much wider mine-gallery frame, the neighbouring cells staying in shadow behind beams and rails. A "27 WAYS" plate is fixed at top left, an empty twin plate at top right. In the lit area: a bearded one-eyed miner, a liquor bottle, a pocket watch, a rat, a golden medallion stamped with an S and the letters A, K, Q. Bet at €1, balance €10,000, PLAYING FOR FUN notice.

One rule is worth reading: on entering the bonus the player picks between Rat Mode and Mouse Mode, and in Rat Mode the spin counter resets to 3 every time an enhancer triggers.

The bearded miner pays 16.00 for seven symbols on 6-7 active reels, 8.75 for six, then 4.25 or 3.25 for five depending on the width of the grid, and 1.40 down to 0.60 for three — the pay therefore falls as the mine grows. The rat opens the next table, whose amounts stay out of frame.
